"crop circles: origins and explanations"

crop circles are beautiful, mysterious, and almost mystical in nature. but what do they really mean? who put them there and why? there are a lot of ideas about where they come from and what purpose they have.
for a bit of background, crop circles are gigantic geometrical designs that appear in wheat and barley fields overnight. there are never any tracks leading to or from the designs and they are precise in a manner that is impossible to appreciate from the ground, and nearly impossible to orchestrate given their huge scale and small time frame.
many people have tried to cash in on the mystery of crop circles. they use high-tech computer design imaging to fake crop circle creation videos. scores of people get together to attempt to recreate the designs but none have produced a large-scale, geometric circle overnight. so with the obvious man-made explanations eliminated, people look to the skies for answers. |
the most popular opinion is that alien space crafts leave crop circles as deliberately enigmatic messages for earthlings. they believe that these complex geometric patterns hold some deep spiritual or mathematical meanings. however, no one has been able to decipher them and no one has yet been able to explain to me why someone would travel thousands of light years just to weave a couple of patterns in tall grass and disappear before the sun rises.
i can't even afford to fly to florida for a week's vacation. what kind of being can afford to fly to a different solar system just to mess with people's minds?
then there is the opinion that the earth itself is creating the patterns. atmospheric conditions and geological forces combine to shift the barley crop in such a way that circles appear. maybe if the crop circles were more crystalline or some other shape found in nature this explanation would make more sense, but these are very complex series of perfect circles and lines. |
of course there is always a convention of people who will refuse to believe. they will say that crop circles have never existed or that they are all man-made, but time and time again we fail to recreate anything as enormous as these mysterious designs. and as for their existance, they have been documented over decades with aerial photography and for centuries before that with drawings and stories.
if you have never seen a kangaroo, a creature that defies all logic can you have faith that such a creature does exist? certainly. crop circles do exist.
so what is their true explanation? what is the origin of these mysterious formations? maybe they have nothing to do with hoaxes, aliens, or geology. possibly they can be attributed to the mating dance of a common species of ant or magnetic attraction to passing meteors. maybe this is something that we aren't meant to understand, that we as a human race are not able to comprehend at our current stage of evolution. |
so instead of questioning their deep, philosophical meaning maybe we should just appreciate them for their eerie beauty, and in cases of sunsets, sandy beaches, and crop circles, sometimes beauty is reason enough for existance.
