it is a terror that has been silently sweeping the nation, but last night it hit home for every family in america. 'moose', the dog actor that portrays the lovable 'eddie' on nbc's frasier has been dognapped. a press conference was held this afternoon at the hollywood soundstage that has been a second home to the frasier cast for many seasons now announcing that a generous reward is being offered by the recently formed 'friends of eddie' foundation. |
'moose' is a four year old jack russell terrier that until last friday was living in los angeles. in addition to his role on frasier he also starred in the 1999 film, my dog skip. his owner, kathy, is angered that anyone would want to steal her talented and friendly pet. "he's more than a dog," she told this reporter, "he's part of the family." his co-star on frasier, kelsey grammer adds, "i always liked acting with him. 'moose' was a true professional." |

police sources reveal that 'moose' is not the only jack russell terrier to be dognapped recently. in fact, there has been a virtual epidemic of disappearances over the past eleven months. i obtained a list of the thirty-seven victims and decided to do a little investigating of my own. i spoke with sally-ann of tacoma, washington, whose dog 'underwood' has been missing for six weeks. "it was terrible, just terrible. he disappeared right out of our back yard. the police didn't even seem to care, they just had me file a report. now that a celebrity is missing, i'm glad to see they finally launched an inquiry." pictured here is 'underwood' taken last christmas. sally-ann's family in olympia say that 'underwood's' delightful cards have become a family tradition. |
many owners refused to comment because they did not want to upset their children or taint their own private investigations, but have all papered their respective neighborhoods with fliers and modest rewards. randy of chicago says, "my wife and i cry ourselves to sleep every night wondering where 'chrystal' is and if she's ok. she's been gone for three and a half months and we have about given up hope of her ever coming home again." sam, of richmond virginia, includes, "it must take a sick, sick, person to steal a dog like my 'bobo.' i hope they catch that son-of-a-jackal." the local animal shelters confirm that none of the missing dogs have been recovered by animal control. |

jack russell terriers are small, wiry dogs. bred for hunting, they are energetic, intelligent, fast, and excellent diggers. because of their size, however, many people mistake the adorable animals for good indoor pets and leave them locked in tiny apartments with no companionship all day long while the dog yaps and yaps and yaps just like my neighbor's annoying little runt. coincidentally, according to police reports, my neighbor's jack russell terrier 'skippy' was the first recorded disappearance in this sting of bizarre crimes.

if anyone has any information that could solve this mystery, we urge you to email us. our hearts go out to the victims. we wish that people like sam, randy, sally-ann, and frasier's kelsey grammer could sleep well at night knowing that their adorably hyper jack russell terriers are home safe and sound where they belong, barking constantly as loud as they please at all hours, keeping the rest of the residents of the building awake and on edge, unable to keep the shrill yaps out of our thin walls. and to the sicko roaming the streets of our fair cities rescuing, excuse me i mean dognapping, these animals: shame on you. shame. on. you. |
